RIBA rethinks the future of 66 Portland Place

The RIBA is on the hunt for a client advisor to rethink the masterplan of its headquarters at 66 Portland Place
RIBA rethinks the future of 66 Portland Place
The institute has invited accredited RIBA client advisors to submit expressions of interest for the strategic review of options for the future use of its headquarters.
It said it wanted to approach the project with an ‘open mind’ so that it could create a new vision based on ‘real insight’ and ‘deep understanding’.
Speaking about the project at last week’s council meeting, RIBA president Jane Duncan, said: ‘The first step of the project is to define a coherent masterplan for the development of Portland Place.’
She added: ‘It is a landmark building and needs to be approached with care. We need to get the future of this building right.’
The chosen client advisor will be asked to propose a consultation process for the project which is expected to take a number of years to complete.
The work will pave the way for the appointment of an architect to develop the masterplan.
A shortlist of up to five client advisors will be drawn up and interviewed before a winner is revealed at the beginning of November.
The strategic review is set to be completed in February 2016 with the results presented to RIBA council in March.
